Blake's, which boasts some of the friendliest bartenders in town, holds strong as the neighborhood boy bar, located a stone's throw from Piedmont Park. While a DJ spins the latest tunes and TVs showcase sexy video clips, flocks of 20- and 30-somethings mix and mingle with an unbeatable view of the street action on 10th. Nightly events such as Monday Movie Madness and Friday's Bingo with Bubba keep the place hopping. An upstairs screened porch provides a break from the action inside.
Packed top to bottom early in the evening, Blake's is a favorite happy hour destination and thins out as the night wears on and guys migrate to other clubs. This watering hole is great for early nights and as a warm-up to an evening on the town. It's also a convenient place to duck in for drinks after an afternoon in the park.

Open since 1978, Bulldogs is an Atlanta institution that has been home to more than its share of stray drinkers. Currently, it draws a mix of locals to its vantage point on Peachtree, in the heart of Midtown. Its expansive bar and large dance floor have been remodeled and feature a polished wood and chrome vibe. The sociable staff entertains both youthful and mature regulars who are always up for a new pool challenge at the solitary quarter-fed table.
Drawing a crowd that includes a large African-American following, the newest incarnation of this famed Atlanta watering hole is a fine choice for a late-night drink with friends. Because of the location, Bulldogs is popular with tourists who populate Midtown high-rise hotels. The Oriental-style gazebo out back works great as a sultry summer meeting spot for friends. Come late for booming hip hop and dance music.
You'll need a pocketful of quarters to play at the Bulldogs pool table. If you're going to challenge the regulars at pool, you'd better be good.
Burkhart’s
1492.F Piedmont Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30309
404.872.4403
Monday – Saturday
Sunday
Neon beer signs and homoerotic posters are attached to anything that stands still. Most patrons skip the pinball machine in favor of the huge tropical patio, complete with cozy partitioned huts--think Gilligan's Island gone glam. Make your way up to the second floor for a bird's eye view of the bar. The music is heavy on '70s and '80s tunes, but there's no dance floor.
Gentlemen start your engines and get your weekend motor running here. Burkhart's is full of gorgeous--but approachable--men from 21 to 40ish. The golden rule here is to have fun because there's no room for attitudes. Most importantly, the drinks come fast, and low prices make for a serious, quick buzz.
Eagle
308 Ponce De Leon Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30308
404.873.2453
Monday – Saturday
To really know all that goes on in this lurid locale, you've got to cruise it for yourself. This vast tavern features room after room of leather men, bears, and good-natured guys rubbing shoulders--and each other. The Eagle houses a large bar area, a walled-off dance floor, a cruising hall and several rooms of pool tables, pinball machines and video games. DJs spin '80s, techno and rock music, and the proprietors host weekly S&M, leather and bear club meetings. Odds are you won't bring a group, as this is more of a solo expedition.
The Eagle is all the rage for what it lacks: pretty boys and glam girls, over-the-top attitude and raucous drag shows. The truly democratic club plays host to men of all shapes, shades and sizes. Gay guests to the ATL invariably end up here to sample the wicked urban pleasures.
The on-site leather and novelty shop hawks some naughty gifts.
Felix’s
1510 Piedmont Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30324
404.249.7899
Monday – Friday
Saturday
Sunday
This teeny tavern features one jukebox, one pool table, one dartboard, one cute and friendly bartender and a passel of talkative regulars. A neighboring restaurant dictates low music early, which is perfect for conversations at the fully-stocked bar. The low-attitude older crowd and a younger after-hours set mingle effortlessly. Felix's is one of the few bars in town where guests can exchange numbers without having to yell above the din.
Sitting in the heart of the bustling Ansley Square gay scene, Felix's is an ideal locale to kick or finish off a night out. Come in when going out is a priority but wall-to-wall bodies packed on a dance floor is at the bottom of your list. Friends or out-of-town guests will enjoy frothy drinks and banter. Many call Felix's "home base" to meet up with the gang before or after a jaunt through the Square. The talented bartenders serve a frothy margarita heavy on alcohol and gratifying on taste.

Monday – Saturday
Flashing strobe lights and cigarette cherries illuminate dancing shadows through thick clouds of smoke in this Dungeons and Dragons-themed bar. Mr. DJ tenaciously keeps the music going, and the spigots in the bar are constantly flowing. Scantily clad jocks and 9-to-5 corporate guys pose in hopes of impressing a suitable "Mr. Right Now." Others take a more no-holds-barred approach and head for the notorious "hall" for some heavy breathing. Double doors lead to a large patio, the only salvation for a breath of fresh air.
It's all about the hall. Local guys are all too familiar with its reputation, and visitors return to Atlanta for more of the experience. Uniform nights, which keep those fantasies alive, are favorites. The mile walk across Cheshire Bridge to your car doesn't seem so bad after an evening at the Heretic. The party really gets going around .
Le Buzz
585 Franklin Road
Marietta, Georgia 30067
770.424.1337
Monday - Saturday
Despite its location in conservative Cobb County, this hot show club and bar is one of the best nightspots in the metro area. The modern decor features polished hardwood floors, expansive patio seating and two full-service bars. The main bar is festooned with rainbow pride flags and big screen TVs. The adjacent Oasis Room boasts a stage for shows and a spacious dance floor surrounded by intimate, blue-topped tables. Comfy leather couches provide a break from the action.
This bright spot in gay nightlife offers the perfect after-work or late-night getaway from the run-of-the-mill dance and drink scene. Le Buzz rewards the trip north with a glitzy atmosphere, nightly entertainment on the 10s, three new pool tables and excellent service. Both young and old, men and women, come to mingle with drag queens and straight couples who fancy a change. Visitors come from miles to sample this scene.
Mary’s
1287 Glenwood Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30316
404.624.4411
Tuesday – Saturday
All are welcome at Mary's, part friendly neighborhood bar, part dance party. Choose the narrow downstairs bar for mingling and dancing or the upstairs nook for lounging and looking fabulous. Although Mary's is nestled in the heart of East Atlanta, you won't find any grungy hipsters. This bar is all about mainstream dance music and an older, but hip clientele. The campy drink menu, with such popular Marytinis as the Virgin Mary and Something About Mary, works well with the upbeat, eclectic decor.
The only gay bar in East Atlanta is hopping until all hours of the night, its DJs blaring the latest dance tunes to the accompanying videos. Patrons make the most of the small space: showing their stuff on the tiny dance floor, checking out the downstairs crowd from the upstairs bar or strutting their karaoke skills on Tuesday and Saturday nights.
Model T
699 Ponce de Leon Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30308
404.872.2209
Monday – Saturday
Sunday
This tavern on the seedier side of Ponce is all bar in a small space. A hodgepodge of young and old ball-cap-wearing regulars prop up the bar and belt out tunes. There's not much atmosphere here, so your best plan of attack is to pick a song and order a drink. You can always slip out the back door if the music gets too loud or if there's trouble from the natives who wander in from the parking lot.
"Don't rain on my parade" sing the regulars at this ragtag but completely down-to-earth drinking hole that proves that there is a place in Atlanta's gay nightlife for everyone. Order an American beer, chalk up a pool cue or hold your own on one of the padded bar chairs. For those nights when your flaunt falls flat, and a baseball cap, blue jeans and some off-pitch show tunes set the tone, head to this place.
Drop the attitude--it's completely lost here, and no one wants to see it. There's something about Model T that makes it an ideal locale to drown your sorrows after a painful breakup.
New Order
1544 Piedmont Road (Ansley Mall behind Publix’s)
Atlanta, GA 30324
404.874.8247
Monday – Thursday
Friday – Saturday
Sunday
Originally named El Matador, this tucked-away treat was one of the city's first gay bars in the 1970s, and the regulars have some stories to tell. These gracious mature gentlemen sip cocktails and beer around a central bar or chat in one of the private booths. A cozy fireplace sets the mood for cold nights, and open mic Thursdays let regulars express themselves. Pool, darts and pinball offers diversion to the after-work crowd, as Patsy Cline and Edith Piaf on the antique jukebox mourn lost love.
This is the leisure locale for those who put a premium on talk over pointless bar chatter. Don't expect a raucous party--the days of the swanky sofas and swinging singles is long gone. Still, pull up a chair, order a martini mixed to near perfection, and you just might learn something. It's perfect for an enlightening gabfest before Friday night debauchery elsewhere.
Opus One
1086 Alco Street NE
Atlanta, GA 30324
404.634.6478
Monday – Saturday
Sunday
It's not fancy, nor is it the public library. With a fully stocked bar, friendly bartenders and small group of conversational regulars, this is a good place to take a load off and enjoy one of the strong mixed cocktails. A few small tables and a row of barstools are the extent of the furnishings, and if the crowds are small, fun-seekers will be disappointed. To break from the chatter, visitors play pinball or a pop song on the ancient jukebox.
With little bar action, conversation sets the tone of late nights here. Community barbecues, Midtown happenings and bad reputations are regular topics for conversation, and the bartender knows all the gossip worth repeating. This is a good watering hole to grab a Saturday night drink before heading down the street to the infamous Heretic, or shuffling across the way to the Huddle House.
Oscar’s Atlanta
1510 Piedmont Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30324
404.874.7748
Monday – Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Spend the night at this upbeat bar and enjoy all of the Hollywood glam without having to make it a black-tie affair. Oscars Atlanta proudly displays its own style and sophistication by highlighting the hottest and newest non-stop music videos on a huge video wall. A slight hint of pretension lingers in the air but is quickly doused when everyone joins in the chorus of their favorite videos. Conversation here can be more entertaining than those annoying pop-up videos.
All of the on- and off-screen divas gather here for a quick mingle and a "drinky poo." The handsome gents, however, are always the feature presentation. Flirting at the Oscars can always land an opportunity for more than a golden, anatomically correct statue.
Paris Decatur
308 West Ponce De Leon Avenue
Decatur, GA 30030
404.687.1965
The grand dames of Decatur are saying "Oui, Oui" to this hot entry into the Eastside nightlife scene. A mod and cozy spot, there is nothing Hilton about this popular stand-in for the city's once hallowed lesbian bar, My Sister's Room. With none of the foliage or freaky fringe of the former, this spot is more hip and hot than its predecessor and makes for an exciting evening under the lights. A mixed crowd mingles here on weekends, sipping tantalizingly mixed cocktails in the snug bar area or nibbling gourmet appetizers with friends around a smattering of tables. After a few drinks, its time to take a turn on the diminutive dance floor to pop and Top 40 DJ sounds as well as more than few blasts from the past. During the week, Paris lures revelers with offerings such as open mic nights, wine tastings and always-popular karaoke.
Weekends are always hopping here but for a change of pace, come by during the week for special theme or event nights.
STAGE DOOR
4431 Hugh Howell Road.
Tucker, GA 30084
678.488.8042
Monday – Friday
Saturday – Sunday
This bar and high-energy club is a lure for suburbanites looking for gay-friendly entertainment. A centralized stage is surrounded by a clutch of lacquer-top tables and an ample bar while a second bar beckons at the entrance. For a break from the din, starlets meander into a poolroom to work their game and feed coins into a jukebox or onto a deck for outdoor gaming. Beaming bartenders sling lethally mixed cocktails to the throngs of men and women, young and old.
For seasoned urbanites, Stage Door is an amusing diversion from Midtown mundane while residents from East Decatur and Tucker call the award-winning watering hole their second home. The menu offers standard selection of burgers and sandwiches with a few veggie options and appetizers. Nightly activities range from darts and Texas Hold 'Em tournaments to weekend drag shows, open mic recitals and kicking karaoke competitions.
The notorious troupe of drag divas, The Tuckerettes, calls this spot home and takes the stage on first and third Sunday nights of the month. The Stage Door Divas perform on alternate Sundays.
Karaoke and DJ-dancing highlight Fridays and Saturdays, while tournaments of every stripe---from bingo to trivia--spice up weeknights.
Because of it's location outside the strict confines of Fulton County, Stage Door is open and pouring long after the Midtown bars turn off lights and bolt their doors.

3 Legged Cowboy
931 Monroe Drive
Atlanta, GA 30308
404.876.0001
There is a glut of gay country bars in Atlanta with the advent of The Wild Mustang, but this boot-scootin', booty-shakin', beer-guzzlin', down-home hotspot is the original. Where the former Hoedown's left off, this watering hole perfectly picks up, with the same laid-back atmosphere, country chic and studly bartenders. Owners have made some cosmetic changes but the old heart and soul of the place remains, even under a naughty-sounding new name. s dancers take to the floor for a two-step or a line dance, fun-loving folks head to the kitschy wood-accented watering hole for some fire water. The foot-tapping and frivolity go late into the night while on weekends, crowds corral to shake the dirt off and have a yippee ki-yay old time.
Greenhorns may want a spot of dance lessons before they hit the floor on Saturday night. Thankfully the bar offers classes, so bucking broncs can put on a great show for their compadres after some serious schooling.
Tripps
1931 Piedmont Circle
Atlanta, GA 30324
404.724.0067
Monday – Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Friendly bartenders work the room, playing host to regulars and fresh-faced newcomers chatting about the latest happenings. Guests sip cocktails at the bar under the glow of a disco ball, or play darts and pinball in the small game room in the back of the converted house. Scattered wooden tables topped with cut-glass ashtrays, fireplaces with deco mirrors, and a saloon-door bathroom are all decorative treasures, as is the Marilyn Monroe paraphernalia that dots the walls.
Friendly regulars--cute guys in T-shirts and jeans and a more established neighborhood crowd--welcome the uninitiated. The music is entertaining, especially kitschy country ballads played at top volume on Thursday nights. Once a month, three-piece band "Amber Taylor and her Trashy Trio" fills the house with fun pop ditties.
WETbar
960 Spring Street
Atlanta, GA 30309
404.745.9494
Wednesday – Saturday
This crisp post-industrial niche, located in the corner of a chrome-edged warehouse, sits behind a cascading water wall. Inside, the space buzzes with house music, but gauzy window treatments create a calming affect. A square bar with a circular liquor display sits in the middle of the room. Candle-pocked concrete-block walls, beaded curtains and rope lighting add to , while cozy couches and a curved banquette offer privacy.
Recently renovated with two revolving dance floors, a video lounge and skyline deck, Wetbar is where you can take a load off and lay your best moves on. Comfy contemporary furnishings make this an intimate location to begin an evening or just take a breather. Conversation is aided by speedy bartenders.

Atlanta, GA 30324

Monday – Saturday

One bookend of a lonely strip across from the former Gold Club, Woofs on Piedmont has the generic feel of your average sports bar. The typical jerseys, banners, caps and other sports keepsakes line the walls, in addition to the atypical rainbow flags. Fake blond wood paneling accents the well-lit bar where burly and not-so-burly men in neatly tucked plaid shirts and baseball caps converse. A dozen televisions fill the nooks and corners, broadcasting everything from football to boxing, gymnastics to basketball. Those with the competitive urge can challenge others to $1 pool or darts.
At Atlanta's only gay sports bar, the staff is friendly and the drinks are cheap. On the surface, Woofs isn't about cruising, rather it's a place where sports fans of any ilk can feel they're on the same team. Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and salads are affordable and involve substantially less grease than the appetizers.
